Fully proficient buyer responsible for initiating purchasing requests made by departments. Contacts vendors, and requests materials and follows-up to ensure delivery date and payments are made.
What You Will Do
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for the best pricing.
- Maintains pricing data.
- Resolves pricing discrepancies.
- Generates return to vendor if delivery is incorrect.
- Reviews freight bills.
- Develops and maintains information to keep abreast of sources and prices.
- Participates in an effective cost improvement and savings program for purchased materials and services.
- Maintains the integrity of purchasing data on the computer-based planning system.
- Keeps abreast of procurement requirements and ensures suppliers understand procurement priorities and meets delivery requirements.
- Pursues target costs with suppliers in an aggressive manner.
- Make substitution recommendations where savings in cost or better delivery can be realized.
- Obtain and analyze quotations on nonstandard items and continually audit prices of standard materials and supplies.
- Search New Vendors.
- Generate Purchase Order.
- Control of PO open in the system
- Requires employee to constantly type and use a computer and other office equipment, such as copier, printer, calendar, telephones, etc.
- Research, select and purchase quality products and materials.
- Process requisitions and update management on status of orders.
- Update inventory and ensure that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels.
- Arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
- Analyze market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions.
- Coordinate with inventory team, management, and stockroom as required.
- Assess quality of stock received and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management.
Education, Skills and Experience
Your education and experience include:
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university.
- At least five years purchasing experience in an ERP environment.
- Extensive knowledge of bills of material, price estimating and costing structure.
- Strong computer and ERP skills.
- Interpersonal skills including collaboration with others, managing change, and negotiation skills.

- Standard requirements: Bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, and reaching will all be used occasionally in this position.
- Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting.
- Requires employee to sit for at least 100% of the time
- Must be able to communicate and respond to coworkers, vendors, suppliers, and emergency cues/alarms, in person and on the telephone, including use of mobile devices
- Must wear all required PPE, including fire-retardant clothing, helmets, face shields, hearing protection, safety goggles, steel-toed boots, as applicable.
