Reporting to the Foreman and Lead Hand of the Spooling Department this position is responsible for building spools for the process piping and utility systems for oil/gas equipment while working within time schedules and maintaining quality standards.

What You Will Do

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Follow written and verbal instructions from the Foreman/Lead Hand
  • Prepare pipe and fittings
  • Fit spools within given tolerances
  • Use bevellers, hand torches, welding machines, power, and hand tools
  • Communicate with Foreman/Lead Hand to identify material shortages or drawing deficiencies
  • Communicate material shortages or drawing deficiencies via online program with project managers/designers
  • Communicate with other workers to organize timely job progression
  • Assist in other areas of shop as required and assigned by Foreman/Lead Hand
  • Organize and keep work area clean
  • Participate in Compass Safety Program including accident investigations and worksite inspections
  • Wear PPE and observe Health & Safety polices at all times
  • Work and operate equipment in a safe and competent manner

Education, Skills and Experience

Your education and experience include:

  • Certified Journeyman Pipefitter or Indentured Apprentice
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience on bench fitting spools
  • Must have own tools to be able to perform pipe/bench fitting accurately
  • Team player with attention to detail
  • Knowledge and understanding of Alberta OH&S, rigging, sling, and crane operation procedures
  • Strong attention to safe work procedures
  • Physically able to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
  • Able to work in a noisy, smoky, dusty shop environment with varying temperatures
