Reporting directly to the E & I Foreman, the Electrical & Instrumentation Lead Hands purpose is to oversee installing process and utility instrument systems for natural gas and process plants while working within time schedules and maintaining quality standards.
What You Will Do
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Allocate and assign appropriate personnel to packages within E & I department
- Act as primary liaison with Engineering and Purchasing to clarify questions related to design or material supply
- Review project components to ensure workflow
- At appropriate time, request delivery from Warehouse of all parts required for the jobs in the E & I departments
- Assist with training and orientation of new or transferred personnel as required
- Advise employees of any potential or actual; hazards related to the job
- Participate in the Compass quality control and safety programs including accident investigations, incidents, conduct toolbox and safety meetings
- Read and interpret blueprints to select correct tube and fitting types and sizes; install to specification and fabricate custom supports including brackets, trays, and racks for instrumentation devices.
- Install and wire electrical panels, junction boxes, and control systems
- Calibrate and test instrumentation devices (e.g., pressure, flow, temperature)
- Perform functional testing on assembled unit
- The successful candidate will lead a team while also performing regular trade-related tasks.
Education, Skills and Experience
Your education and experience include:
- Journeyman Electrician or Instrumentation Journeyman
- Compression Industry experience an asset
- Previous experience in a supervisory role
- Must have own tools as per the Compass Tool List for Tradesmen
- Knowledge and understanding of Electrical Codes and Quality Control procedures where applicable
- Knowledge and understanding of OH&S, rigging, sling, and crane operation procedures
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Team player with attention to detail
- Ability to coach and mentor staff
- Competent with computer software including Microsoft Office
Physical Strain
Include an intro to physical strain
- Requires moving and maintaining self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including bending, squatting, climbing, stooping, twisting, and reaching
- Requires employee to stand for at least 75% of the time
- Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must wear required PPE, compliant with OH&S regulations including, hard hats, face shields, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, as applicable
- Requires employee to occasionally climb stairs or ladders and must be capable of maintaining balance on stairs or ladders without assistance up to 25 feet
